The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has given the approval to MTN and AIRTEL for the partial disconnection of owing colleagues, GLO, NTEL and Smile networks thereby restricting its customers from calling other networks.
A notice was recently served in which The NCC asked MTN, Airtel and IHS to disconnect, on partial basis, services to Globacom, NTEL and Smile due to failure to pay the Interconnect Debt, reportedly totalling N180 billion.
The notice which was served on the 18th of December, will expire on the 28th of December. If the disconnection move is implemented, it will leave a huge number of subscribers affected (approximately 35 million).
