Samsung has announced the world’s first phone with a camera hole in the display. The Samsung Galaxy A8s appears to beat Huawei Honor to the punch.
The Samsung Galaxy A8s’ in-display camera is termed the Infinity-O display by Samsung. The screen incorporates a camera hole that’s 6.7mm wide for the selfie shooter in the upper left corner and it stretches to 6.4″ in diagonal. With a screen resolution is 1080 x 2340 pixels and a tall 19:5:9 aspect ratio, the phone has slim bezels and looks sleek.
The Samsung A8s has 24MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The phone also has a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 24MP main sensor with a large f/1.7 aperture, a secondary 10MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 opening and a 5MP with a f/2.2 aperture, used only for depth sensing. The phone is available in Blue, Gray and Green
The Samsung A8s carries a 3,400 mAh battery with adaptive fast charging support over USB-C and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Samsung’s UI on top. We’re not quite sure what to expect in terms of the chipset but if it’s anything like the Galaxy A7 and A9 series, it will probably have a mid-range chipset, 4GB to 8GB of RAM, and 64GB to 128GB of storage.
Although there’s no price on the phone yet, judging by the specs so far, it should be somewhere in the upper-mid-range segment.
